The seamless, frictionless life of a Soft Border Patrol…

3963077F-025C-44E8-AEF2-3A3F9E9A031FWith the airing of new BBC1 comedy Soft Border Patrol next weekend (Friday 2 March 2018) this is probably the most excited – along with the most nervous! – I’ve been about a show on which I have worked.

I play one of the leads in the mockumentary (produced by The Comedy Unit), about how a ‘soft border’ may look and function with Brexit.

The show is mostly improvised (hence my nervousness!) with our team of hapless patrollers being thrown into unconventional scenarios that arise from day-to-day crossings of the soft border.

46B143A9-8DD5-4F50-BD82-53C43F11C79EI play Kris Davies, a new dad with an apolitical nature who just wants to see everyone get along. My Patrol partner is Ben McGregor (played by Michael Condron), a outdoorsy, country-music lovin’ man… who still lives with his mum.

There are a few other familiar faces you may recognize from Hollyoaks, The Fall and Game of Thrones. Watch out for  local comedians Neil Delamere and Alan Irwin, and Karen Hassan and Diona Doherty, who recently appeared in Channel 4 comedy Derry Girls as no-nonsense Katya.

Soft Border Patrol airs this Friday at 10.35pm on BBC1 NI but people elsewhere can watch it on Sky channel 953/979 Virgin channel 863.

I hope you enjoy the chaos, give us a follow on Twitter @real_SBP & check out the BBC website Soft Border Patrol page for some exclusive footage before it airs.

To Lose Control – Page to Screen and Behind the Scenes

ImageFriday and Saturday will see the culmination of a lot of hard work from a bunch of very talented people.

To Lose Control will have launch screenings for cast, crew, friends and family. The amount of help and support that people and companies have given this project has been overwhelming and I would just like to say a big thank you for all of it!

As you’ve probably heard before the seeds were sown on this project around this time 2 years ago and 6 months ago, after a long week, we finished principal photography.

This for me is definitely one I’m very proud to be involved with: to collaborate with someone on such a personal project was an honour and I hope I’ve done the material justice.

Here’s a ‘Behind the Scenes’ video for a bit of an insight into the production:

The screenings will take place on Friday at 5.30pm sharp at Queen’s Film Theatre Belfast and  at the Moviehouse Dublin Road at 10.30am. If you would like to attend any of these they are both FREE, just email tolosecontrol@gmail.com and RSVP.

Hope to see you all there!

New Film – “To Lose Control”

After the success of Desecration last year, myself and Marty Stalker will be collaborating once again on a new film called To Lose Control.

It’s probably my most ambitious role to date, as I take on the character of Royal Marine Chris Draper, an Afghanistan and Iraq war veteran who is trying to cope with P.T.S.D (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

The film explores the once controversial therapy EMDR, (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) used for dealing with P.T.S.D, and how family and close friends all become affected by it.

Plans are to have cameras rolling this summer with some locations around Northern Ireland doubling for Afghanistan. Here’s a teaser trailer of what you can expect –

2012 Showreel

New showreel for 2012! It includes some of what I was up to last year thanks to Marty Stalker at Scattered Images.

There is some exclusive footage from movies that will be out later in the year, including Desecration and Coast.

“2p”… New Movie

This weekend I will be filming the movie, 2p.

It’s an interesting, fun short film and I’m really excited about playing the starring role of ‘Billy’.

Synopsis:
Billy has an odd obsession.
He takes pride in his work as a nightclub PR rep between the hours of nine and five, but Billy’s life’s passion is collecting 2p coins. He takes incredible joy in his small change hobby, learning the value of enjoying the tiny things life has to offer.

The director is Will Maloney and it will be produced by Larry Cowan of Lamb Films. 2p will be entered into the Virgin Media Shorts Competition. (No doubt you will hear more from me shortly, when I’ll be asking for your votes!!!)

I can’t wait to get started!

Chris

Watch Chris on Channel 4 tonight

Tune in to Channel 4 at 10.00pm (or at 11.00pm on Channel 4 + 1) tonight, 3 April, to catch Chris acting in Peter Mullan’s award-winning masterpiece The Magdalene Sisters. Its subject matter continues to resonate throughout Ireland today and is a gripping watch. Don’t miss it!
